Comment: Enthusiasm for the America's Cup racing season seems to have dwindled between the selection of San Francisco as host locale (two and a half years ago) and the date of the first "Challenger Series" race (today). Perhaps it was the long run-up, or a lack of accessibility to the general public. It certainly didn't help that one of the two teams scheduled to race on Sunday abstained due to safety concerns.
"Live from San Francisco Bay...Team New Zealand squares off against...nobody...IT'S THE AMERICA'S CUP ON NBC!!"
