Unnoticed Goes the Little Stream

Unnoticed goes the little stream
A detail in a mountain dream
Its shallow watery octave sings
The nuanced comfort that it brings

Perception lags behind the stride
Of us who pass the creek beside
We contemplate the place that put
Untroubled waters underfoot

Its sunsets, redwoods, headland heights
Its slumber under starry lights
We that view the broad expanse
Afford the creek a passing glance

While carrying on to other points
A book or chart or map annoints
Acclaim is not what creeks desire
(sunshine low and snowfall higher)

Their shallow watery octaves sing
The nuanced comfort that they bring
A drink to soothe Sierra thirst
The song a newborn bird hears first
