...involves driving east into Eldorado National Forest for a two-night stay near the shores of Loon Lake. The air up there is clear and thin, the stars, low-hanging, and the other residents of the campground, on this weekend at least, demonstrate a strong resolve for utter silence on their sleeping schedules.
A dozen of us made the trip from San Francisco, and all emerged unscathed by bear attacks. Unfortunately, numerous plastic army men were badly deformed fighting in what some would term a cruel and senseless battle within the group firepit.
