An Evening Walk Through The Panhandle

Evidence of vulnerability
strewn at their feet -
courtesy, in part,
of the unrelenting Pacific breeze -
the elderly oak trees stand their ground
doing what they can
to stem the ebb and flow of traffic's orchestra

The residues of rubber tires and leather balls
are mere echoes
blanketed by the long shadows
that urge some to leave
and put others
gently to sleep
